The Jacob Hartog Foundation

Mission

The mission of the Jacob Hartog Foundation is to promote the profession of the visual arts and public interest therein, especially painting, sculpture, and graphics. The Foundation promotes the visual arts primarily by awarding the annual Jacob Hartog Prize to an artist-member of the Artists' Association of Pulchri Studio in The Hague at their annual Spring Exhibition. www.jacobhartog.nl

The Jacob Hartog Award

This Award is indeed well-known to the Hague public and the artists of Pulchri, for whom the prize is an asset to their Curriculum Vitae, and which includes a welcome reward (€ 2500) for outstanding artistic achievement. Several hundred artists compete for the annual prize annually (approximately 260 entries in 2023). In addition, the Foundation intends to offer a joint exhibition to the annual award-winner and two nominees for approximately 4 weeks at Pulchri following the collective Spring Exhibition.

The Foundation also intends to present a new Youth Award and Platform at Pulchri to young artists from accredited art academies of the Netherlands and offer the runners-up both a joint exhibition space and introductory membership to Pulchri.

Historic reciprocity between the Hartog Family and Pulchri Studio.

Jacob Hartog (1875-1962) of Dutch nationality, became a member of Pulchri in 1935 where he was a Maecenas for young artists. After emigrating to the United States in 1939, he subsequently initiated an annual Award for artists of Pulchri in 1952. The Jacob Hartog Stichting was founded by his son Harold in his memory. To this day, the Foundation continues to support Pulchri Studio and its artist members with an annual Award Ceremony.

Pulchri Studio itself was established 175 years ago. Historically, Pulchri Studio organizes the Spring Exhibition while The Jacob Hartog Foundation finances the annual Award. https://www.pulchri.nl/nl/english/.

For the realization of the above activities, sponsorship is most welcome.
