Bequests

A lasting way for you to support The Netherland-America Foundation is to leave us a bequest in your will or living trust. A gift by will or bequest is deductible for estate tax purposes.

Benefits of a bequest

  • You leave a lasting legacy to be remembered and can make a final impact on the future of the NAF’s mission.
  • You may lessen the burden of estate taxes for your family.
  • You may receive estate tax savings.

Learning about bequests

Anyone can make a bequest—in any amount. A bequest is generally a revocable gift, which means it can be changed or modified at any time. You can choose to designate that a bequest is used for a general or specific purpose so you have peace of mind knowing that your gift will be used as intended. Bequests are exempt from federal estate taxes. If you have a taxable estate, the estate tax charitable deduction may offset or eliminate estate taxes, resulting in a larger inheritance for your heirs.

With the help of an advisor, you can include language in your will or trust specifying a gift be made to family, friends, or The Netherland-America Foundation as part of your estate plan.

Types of Bequests

A bequest is a gift made through your will or trust, or with a codicil. There are a number of ways you can make a bequest to the Netherland-America Foundation.

  • You can gift a specific dollar amount or asset (specific bequest)
  • You can gift a percentage of your estate (percentage bequest)
  • You can gift from the balance or residue of your estate*
  • You can make a beneficiary designation of certain assets**

Bequest Language

In order to make a bequest, you should speak with your attorney. Your attorney can help you include a bequest to the Netherland-America Foundation in your estate plan. We have provided some basic bequest language to assist you and your attorney.

Restricted Bequests

You can indicate to the Netherland-America Foundation if you have specific wishes for your legacy. For example, you would like to dedicate your gift to cultural exchange projects or to a specific field of educational exchange. We are of course happy to work with you and your attorney to help identify and meet your charitable objectives. Together we can ensure that the Netherland-America Foundation’s continuity is guaranteed in the future.
