Fawad Omar

“Living and working in the US gave me exposure to a different work culture, which allowed me to compare and contrast the European and American approaches to scientific research. I found the optimism and attitude of dreaming bigger in the US to be inspiring, and it has given me more confidence in tackling difficult challenges. The NAF scholarship was critical in making this experience possible for me, and I am grateful for their support.”

Tren Baltussen

“I have always been very attracted to the United States as a country. I find its culture very intriguing and I love how open and welcoming the people are. In addition, it is home to so many universities that conduct ground-breaking research. It has just been wonderful to experience and be a part of this research community. I have made some great connections and expanded my professional network…I would like to express my deep gratitude to The Netherland-America Foundation and its sponsors. The Dutch2USA Internship program has given me the opportunity to develop myself in countless ways, both professionally and personally. I've made dear friends for life and memories that I will cherish for the rest of my life.”

Renske de Jong

“As a Dutch person, it is the norm to think, ‘act normal, you are already special as is,’ which can keep you grounded but can also keep you from achieving your ‘crazy’ dreams. In the USA, dreams can't be big enough. I really liked this mindset and will try to keep this with me in my grounded home country.”

Tambinh Bui

“Although the cost of living is San Francisco is very high, I have come to understand why so many people enjoy living there, and I am just so grateful that I received your support to have this experience and live and study in this amazing city for the past 8 months…In the future, I hope to combine clinical work with research activities as a clinician-scientist, and I truly believe this incredible research experience at UCSF has been the best possible preparation for that. I am hugely grateful for the support of the Netherland-America Foundation throughout this internship and I will work hard to one day be able to give back, and support future students like me to realize their dream.”
