Embassy of the Free Mind
For over fifty years, the Bibliotheca Philosophica Hermetica (BPH) has preserved humanity’s most extraordinary ancient wisdom traditions to inspire free thought. Today, that mission takes the form of a museum and cultural center in the heart of Amsterdam where the unique heritage of free thought is made available to all.
MUSEUM & LIBRARY · AMSTERDAM
The Embassy of the Free Mind in Amsterdam is home to the UNESCO-listed Bibliotheca Philosophica Hermetica (BPH): one of the world’s most important collections on Hermetic wisdom, philosophy, science, religion, and the history of ideas.
At the Embassy of the Free Mind, people can explore the books in the historic “House with the Heads” and engage with ideas that have inspired humanity for generations.
We are an independent, non-profit foundation. The Embassy of the Free Mind receives no structural government support – our existence depends on private donations, sponsors, and foundations. Every contribution helps us to:
- Preserve the Bibliotheca Philosophica Hermetica so future generations can access this knowledge, both in person and online
- Curate international exhibitions to connect EFM’s ideas and vision with leading institutions and diverse audiences worldwide
- Unlock the monument of the House with the Heads to create additional space for the museum experience, our climate-controlled book collection, dedicated learning areas, and conference rooms

Source Library
Launched in April 2026, the Source Library is an open-access digital library: the largest freely available collection of translated historical primary sources ever assembled. Using AI-powered translation, it opens texts that have been inaccessible to non-specialists for centuries.
With the Bibliotheca Philosophica Hermetica (BPH) collection being the first, Source Library draws on digitised books from other major research libraries worldwide, including the Bavarian State Library, the Vatican Library, the Bodleian Library at Oxford, Cambridge University Library.
Source Library is an initiative of the Embassy of the Free Mind. All contributions are received by the Embassy of the Free Mind and allocated specifically to the Source Library project – funding the digitization, translation, and open publication of rare historical texts.
