EMBASSY OF THE FREE MIND

The Embassy of the Free Mind in Amsterdam is the public home of the Bibliotheca Philosophica Hermetica: one of the world’s most important collections on hermetic wisdom, philosophy, science, religion, and the history of ideas.

The unique library contains over 25,000 rare books and manuscripts, including works by Spinoza, Descartes, and other great thinkers who shaped Western thought. These texts reflect a centuries-long quest for knowledge, wisdom, and human freedom.

At the Embassy of the Free Mind, this collection comes alive. Visitors can explore the books in our historic “House with the Heads,” attend exhibitions, lectures, and workshops, and engage with ideas that have inspired humanity for generations. Our mission is clear: to preserve and share this unique heritage of free thought and to inspire new generations to think independently and connect across cultures.

About the Embassy of the Free Mind

We are an independent, non-profit foundation. The Embassy of the Free Mind receives no structural government support; our existence depends on private donations, sponsors, and foundations. Every contribution helps us:

  • Preserve, digitize and translate the Bibliotheca Philosophica Hermetica so future generations can access this knowledge.
  • Host exhibitions and events in the unique House with the Heads monument, located in the heart of Amsterdam, and bring timeless ideas into today’s world.
  • Develop the Academy of the Free Mind and activities for children, students, researchers, and all who are curious. We believe that sharing knowledge and ideas across cultures and generations can lead to a more tolerant, compassionate, and sustainable world.

In a time of polarization and division, the Embassy of the Free Mind serves as a meeting place for dialogue, understanding, and the free exchange of ideas.

“As Above, So Below.”

Your support makes all this possible. If you believe in the importance of preserving the heritage of free thought, please consider joining us as a sponsor or donor. Together, we can keep this unique library and cultural center accessible to the world.
