A DUTCH-US CULTURAL EXCHANGE
The NAF Cultural Grants support exhibitions, performances, and cultural projects that strengthen artistic and intellectual exchange between the Netherlands and the United States. We welcome applications from both emerging artists and established organizations working in the cultural sector.
These grants help bring meaningful cultural collaborations to life and connect audiences across both countries.
WHAT WE SUPPORT
We fund professional artistic and cultural projects that demonstrate a clear exchange between Dutch and American artists, institutions, or audiences. Projects may include exhibitions, performances, or other cultural initiatives that promote dialogue and collaboration.
Grant amounts typically range between $1,500 and $5,000, depending on the scope and impact of the project.
WHEN TO APPLY
There are four application deadlines each year:
-
February 1 – When submissions are sent in between November 2 – February 1, results are provided in mid-March.

HOW TO APPLY
Option 1: Letter of intent (optional)
If your project is still in development and at least nine months away, you may submit a one-page letter of intent. This should briefly describe;
- An overview of the project, in English, including a clear description of the level of Dutch and American exchange found in the project
- Date(s) of performance and timeline and any relevant participants
- Grant amount to be requested (estimate is fine)
If the Cultural Committee is interested, you will be invited to submit a full application.
Option 2: Full application
Full applications must be submitted at least six months before the project starts. Projects already underway or completed are not eligible. Previous grantees should wait three years before re-applying. All publications, programs, and publicity must credit the Netherland-America Foundation with the NAF logo.
A complete application, in English, should include:
- Cover letter (1–2 pages): Summary of the project, requested grant amount, timeline, performance dates, and background of key participants.
- Budget (1 page): Itemized expenses, other funding sources, and what the NAF grant will cover. Amounts should be in U.S. dollars. Typical grants range from $1,500–$5,000, but larger or smaller requests are considered.
- Letters of support or contracts: Optional, from partners or presenters.
- Supporting material: Photos, slides, or videos if relevant.
Applicants must be working professionals or institutions in the cultural sector.
FINAL PROJECT REPORT
All awardees are required to submit a final project report within three months of the grant’s completion, including video and photo material for promotional use by the NAF. No new applications for a future project of yours will be considered if your final report is not submitted.
