A DUTCH-AMERICAN CULTURAL EXCHANGE
The NAF Cultural Grants support exhibitions, performances, and cultural projects that strengthen artistic and intellectual exchange between the Netherlands and the United States. We welcome applications from both emerging artists and established organizations working in the cultural sector.
These grants help bring meaningful cultural collaborations to life and connect audiences across both countries.
WHAT WE SUPPORT
We fund professional artistic and cultural projects that demonstrate a clear exchange between Dutch and American artists, institutions, or audiences. Projects may include exhibitions, performances, or other cultural initiatives that promote dialogue and collaboration.
Grant amounts typically range between $1,500 and $5,000, depending on the scope and impact of the project. Higher amounts can be awarded depending on the availability of the Cultural Grant budget.
The Cultural Grant Program does not support applicants who are not working professionals in the cultural sector, applicants who apply for funds to attend a seminar, or applicants who apply for tuition expenses for a degree program. If you apply for funding for a project that does not represent a Dutch-American connection, your application will not be forwarded to the selection committee.
WHEN TO APPLY
There are four application deadlines each year:
-
February 1 – When submissions are sent in between November 2 – February 1, results are provided in mid-March.
-
May 1 – When submissions are sent in between February 2 – May 1, results are provided in mid-June.
-
August 1- When submissions are sent in between May 2 – August 1, results are provided in mid-September.
-
November 1- When submissions are sent in between August 2 and November 1, results are provided in mid-December.
Applications must be submitted at least six months before the project start date. Projects that are already underway or completed are not eligible.
HOW TO APPLY
Option 1: Letter of Intent (optional, but recommended)
If your project is still in development and at least nine months away, you may submit a one-page letter of intent. This should briefly describe:
- An overview of the project (in English), including a clear description of the level of Dutch and American exchange found in the project
- Date(s) of performance and timeline and any relevant participants
- Grant amount to be requested (estimate is fine)
If the Cultural Committee is interested, you will be invited to submit a full application.
Option 2: Application
Full applications must be submitted 5-6 months before the project takes place. Projects already underway or completed are not eligible to apply for funding. Previous grantees should wait three years before re-applying. All publications, programs, and publicity must credit the Netherland-America Foundation with the NAF logo.
A complete application, in English, should include:
- Cover letter (1–2 pages): Summary of the project, requested grant amount, timeline, performance dates, and background of key participants.
- Budget (1 page): Itemized expenses, other funding sources, and what the NAF grant will cover. Amounts should be in U.S. dollars. Typical grants range from $1,500–$5,000, but larger or smaller requests are considered.
- Letters of support or contracts from partners or presenters (optional)
- Supporting material: Photos or videos if relevant
Applicants must be working professionals or institutions in the cultural sector.
FINAL PROJECT REPORT
All awardees are required to submit a final project report within three months of the grant’s completion, including video and photo material for promotional use by the NAF. No new applications for a future project of yours will be considered if your final report is not submitted.
