Sheltersuit: bridging the gap between people through impactful products
Three impact pillars:
(i) create jobs to people with a distance to the labour force
(ii) help people experiencing homelessness;
(iii) reduce waste by upcycling materials.
Vision, mission and ambition:
The Sheltersuit vision is a world where everyone has access to shelter and is treated with dignity. To achieve such, a movement of people helping people is needed. It is therefore our mission to bridge the gap between those who need shelter and those willing to help. Through impactful products, caring for dignity and building trust.
Sheltersuit’s ambition is to be the global leader in creating this movement of people helping people while facilitating jobs for people with a distance to the labor force, and reducing waste streams. Sheltersuit pursues its mission all over the world. In the USA, Sheltersuit has helped over 6,000 people over the past years. With over 582,000 people experiencing homelessness in the USA (and acknowledging the fact that this number reflects a large undercount of 40%), a call for help keeps coming.
Sheltersuit products:
The sheltersuit is a wind and waterproof jacket with an optional sleeping bag attachment to provide immediate shelter. The sheltersuit consists of a jacket, sleeping bag and a duffel bag. The jacket is made from high-quality, breathable tent-fabric. The inner lining is made from upcycled sleeping bags, making each Sheltersuit unique. The large hood shields the face from rain and streetlights, and contains an integrated scarf. It is particularly suitable for colder climates.
The shelterbag is a portable, sheltered bed that rolls up into a bag. The item is water- and windproof, lightweight, easy to handle and has an extra compartment for some personal items. It comes with a built-in mattress and a pillow, and also has room for an extra sleeping bag or blanket, making it adaptable for all seasons.
Donation impact example:
$ 70 creates 3 hours of work, provides warmth and protection to a person experiencing homelessness and upcycles 3.5kg of materials.
