San Francisco King’s Day

SF Kingsday finalThe Consulate General of the Netherlands in San Francisco is getting ready for the Dutch annual celebration that traditionally colors the Netherlands orange: King’s Day. This national holiday, on which we celebrate King Willem-Alexander’s birthday, can be considered a phenomenal street party, a family day that brings together the Dutch community in the Netherlands, but also overseas.

With this letter, I want to invite you to celebrate King’s Day with us on:

Saturday April 23, 2016
Golden Gate Park, Murphy Windmill
11 AM until 5 PM

On the West Coast of the United States, San Francisco is known to organize the largest King’s Day celebration. This celebration will include a variety of food vendors offering Dutch delicacies such as cheese, pastries, fresh herring, pancakes, waffles and Dutch fries and snacks prepared Dutch style. A DJ playing will complete the festivities with the best Dutch music and a silent disco. Another unique aspect of King’s day is that children (and adults) are allowed to sell or trade their second hand toys and clothes or to sell their own hand made jewelry and apparel. Kids will also be playing traditional Dutch children’s games.

Everybody of the greater SF Bay Area community and beyond is invited to join in this memorable family-friendly celebration. Last year around 3,500 people joined our unique version of King’s Day. This number of people can be introduced to you or your company this year if you decide to join this celebration with a sponsorship. Your sponsorship will also help us to continue to organize and celebrate King’s Day in the future, and keep this tradition alive in San Francisco.
