Another spectacular performance by three talented musicians from Holland – laureates of the Princes Christina Concours. The event was organized by Ron and Charlotte Smit, shadowed by Dick and Yvonne van Hoepen – who organized this tour in North America for more than 13 years, and passed the baton to Ron & Charlotte as of this year.

The laureates of the Princes Christina Concours in the Netherlands:

Tim de Vries (2000) Violinist

Tim de Vries (2000) has been playing violin since 7 years old. He started studies at the Muziekschool Fluxus in Zaandam, and now studies at the Conservatorium of Amsterdam, with acclaimed teachers and master class professionals. He has won first place prizes in competitions in the Britten Violin Concourse of 2014

and Prinses Christina Junior Concours of 2012, and more recently in the Haarlem Prinses Christina Regional Concours. He has played in the Doelen in Rotterdam, and was a soloist with the Hayden Youth String Orchestra in Germany.

Hadewich de Meester (1995) Soprano

Hadewich de Meester (1995) started her singing studies at age 15 at the Stedelijke Muziekacademie in Sint Niklaas, Belgium. In 2012-13 she sang the role of Pamina in an adaption of Mozarts “Die Zauberflote” for the Vlaamse youth Opera. In 2016 she was a prizewinner of the Rotterdam Prinses Christina

Concours, was chosen for a soloist performance with the Viotta youth orchestra, and now furthers her studies with acclaimed teachers in Belgium and at the Rotterdam Music Conservatorium. She is also a fourth year student at the TU Delft, in Maritime Techniques.

Flores van Dam (1995) Pianist

Floris van Dam (1995) started playing piano at age 7, and by age 14, he thought that he would like to become a professional pianist. He was accepted for piano studies at the Conservatorium of Tilburg, (Young Musicians Academy) where he became part of a prize winning trio at the Prinses Christina Concours of

2012. Thereafter the trio was invited to perform in Greece. He regularly performs as soloist, including in the Prinses Christina “Classic Express”, the unique mobile “concert hall” that tours cities and towns in the Netherlands, especially designed to introduce and interest the Dutch Youth to classical music. Floris is also a fourth year student at the Technical University (TU) Delft, in Mechanical Engineering.

Our sincere thanks to KLM – Royal Dutch Airlines – for sponsoring the international tickets of the three musicians, from Amsterdam to Calgary and from Los Angeles back to Amsterdam. For many years the KLM has been very supportive of the good work of the Prinses Christina Concours and for this we are all very grateful!! Message from The PCC Director for the 2017 Canada & USA Concert Tour

We are proud to present three talented young prize winners of the Prinses Christina Concours from The Netherlands. Highly skilled musicians that tell a passionate musical story with their instruments. Three music ambassadors to provide inspiration and to stimulate children to pick up an instrument. It is for these talents that we will continue our activities celebrating the organization’s 50th anniversary in the coming season.

On behalf of the organization of the Prinses Christina Concours I wholeheartedly thank our loyal tour supporters KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, the Netherland-America Foundation, the consulates general in Vancouver and San Francisco, the honorary consulates in Calgary, Portland and Los Angeles and the families who are kindly offering their hospitality to our prize winners.

I wish you a splendid and memorable concert. Feyo Sickinghe, Managing Director.
