A special showing of the award-winning film
Holland – The Living Delta
Monday, December 18, 2017
6:15 – 8:30 pm
It is often said that while God created the world, the Dutch created Holland. Holland, The Living Delta – which was awarded a Golden Film title by the Dutch Film Festival and Dutch Film Fund – is a documentary that celebrates the diverse natural heritage of the Dutch rivers and delta region while sketching the cultural and historical context that has played such a vital part in shaping them.
This is a unique one-time showing of the film in the SF Bay Area, an area that has it’s own precious delta, just a week after the anniversary of the Paris Agreement. Join us to explore whether there are lessons to be learned on managing ecological change and sea level rise, or just to be inspired by the stunning footage, followed by drinks and an informal discussion.
Using cutting edge cinematic techniques ranging from eagle’s eye aerial views to unprecedented underwater scenes revealing rarely seen hidden worlds – Holland, The Living Delta presents a portrait of this unique wetland area of Europe; capturing it in a pivotal moment , when many of the natural processes, all but strangled by dikes, pumps and canals, are recovering, and new life is flooding back into the delta.
