1:30 pm – A Toast to Loet and Edith Velmans

Loet Velmans, who passed away on November 11, 2016, was Chairman of the Executive Committee of the NAF from 1989 through 1993, oversaw the successful merger on May 1, 1989, of two of the leading cultural and philanthropic Dutch-American organizations of the day—the Netherlands-America Community Association, Inc. (NACA) and the Dutch American West-India Company Foundation, Inc. (DAWIC). The Boards of both institutions agreed to reinstate the name of The Netherland-America Foundation, Inc., the organization founded in 1921.

Edith Velmans served as a director and member of the Cultural Committee of the NACA since 1981 and of the NAF from 1989 until 2006. In her roles, Edith reviewed, discussed and voted on literally hundreds of cultural grant applications, submitted to both organizations.

Please join us in celebrating this remarkable couple—Edith and Loet Velmans—for their leadership and contributions to the NAF!

Don’t miss the 2017
NAF Heritage Society Luncheon!

Over six years ago (2011), the NAF celebrated its 90th anniversary by establishing a “Heritage Society” committed to planning for and securing the future of the Foundation. Over the next three years, the Heritage Society will play an important role in leading the NAF up to its 100th anniversary-and into its second century of operation-as the premier organization in the U.S. promoting Dutch-American exchange.
